The rank system in the Indian Air Force is organised into three broad categories: Commissioned Officers, Junior Warrant Officers (JWO) and above (Airmen cadre), and Airmen (Non-Commissioned Personnel). 1. Commissioned Officers

Air Chief Marshal – The Chief of the Air Staff
Marshal of the Indian Air Force – A ceremonial five-star rank (awarded only once to Arjan Singh)
Officers in the IAF lead missions, command bases, and formulate operational strategy across diverse combat and support roles.
2. Junior Warrant Officers and Senior Airmen
These ranks form the bridge between officers and the airmen. They handle technical supervision, training, and leadership at the operational level. Their ranks include:

3. Airmen (Non-Commissioned Personnel)
